Three-bedroom house on a tight site.
Heat recovery ventilation and solar panels.
Sue and Sarah owned a large, energy-consuming Victorian semi in the heart of the Preston Park Conservation Area and wanted to down-size and move into a modern energy-efficient home but within the same area. Fortunately for them they also owned a small piece of land at the rear of their home with a double garage and road access. We quickly identified the potential of the site and designed for them a new home for their retirement.
This detached three-bedroom home required sensitive design that respects the street scene as it sits next to a Victorian church which is designated as a heritage asset, within a conservation area.
The main living space is placed in a basement in order to reduce the required height of the structure and visual impact. A sunken courtyard brings natural light into the basement to improve the living environment and reduce the need for artificial lighting and the dining room opens onto an additional terrace at the back of the property. The ground floor houses the kitchen and dining area and the top floors hold three bedrooms with generous built-in storage, a bathroom and separate shower room.
Sue & Sarah have now moved in and enjoy the benefits of this low energy home which boasts a PV solar array for free energy and a heat recovery ventilation system for comfort.
