The Challenge

Andrew & Keiko own a large period property with spacious south-facing garden in leafy Epsom, Surrey. They want to build a new sustainable eco-dwelling in the garden that they can retire in comfort and with low energy bills and minimal maintenence.

Our approach

Andrew & Keiko want to preserve the garden plot's many mature trees and so this presented us with a challenge that has heavily influenced the layout of the new dwelling on the plot. They also want an indoor swimming pool with counter current system so that they can regularly exercise as they 'age in place'.

Sustainable features

The super-structure for the house will be  300mm 'double-stud' system filled with natural cellulose insulation to give near-Passivhaus standards. The dwelling will also benefit from a zinc roof-integrated solar PV system to provide much of the electricity and an air-source heat pump to provide the hot water.
