The Challenge

Maria & Frank moved down to Sussex from London in persuit of a more sustainable lifestyle. The modest 1960's detached home they bought desperately needs to be thermally upgraded to reduce running costs and will need an extension to capitalise on the views of the South Downs.

Our approach

Our solution is to place a two-storey extension on the south side creating a new living living room, master bedroom and library with extensive views to the South Downs. A single-storey lobby extension on the north side allows a new spacious staircase to be accommodated.

Sustainable features

The new timber-framed extensions will be super-insulated with natural cellulose and the existing fabric of the house will be upgraded with external wall insulation and render and a new zinc roof with integrated solar PV panels. The old oil-fired boiler will be replaced with a modern and efficient air-source heat pump.
