The Challenge

Sara & Hew own a secluded house on the edge of the Ashdown Forest surrounded by trees and beautiful countryside. They were not happy with their large and energy-hungry conservatory, built by the previous owners, which was too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. Instead they wanted a modern light-filled extension as an additional living room and a home office where Hew could work from home.

Our approach

Firstly we proposed an office extension as a wing to the entrance to balance up the existing opposite wing. This was designed in a style sympathetic to the existing brick and tile house. To the rear of this we placed a simply designed glass box with a flat roof and minimal structure to give a strong connection to the adjacent woodland and with views across fields.

The result

Sara & Hew can now relax in their comfortable new space and enjoy both the views and the deer that visit the woods right next to the extension. Their running costs are a lot less than before and the extensions have added great value to their property.
